Assistant General Chairperson - Four Year Term

Assistant General Chair Al Faung enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1965 he was assigned to the Naval Air Training School for Plane Captains where he worked in Ground Services and became a Jet Engine Mechanic. Faung then served 16 months in Vietnam, where he was decorated with the Marine Corps Medal for Heroism and the Navy's Medal of Merit with a combat "V" for heroism.

After serving four years with the Marines, Faung returned to his hometown of Baltimore to begin a career in ramp service with United Airlines. He was a proud member of Local Lodge 845 at BWI.

Faung was furloughed to DCA in 1971 and soon became Shop Steward. During the strikes of 1976 and 1979, he was assigned to duties as strike captain at Local Lodge 1759. Then, in 1980, he was furloughed to ORD and consequently became a Shop Steward in Chicago.

Faung was eventually elected full-time Ramp & Stores Committeeperson for Local Lodge 1487 and also served the Lodge as Trustee.

In 1990, he was transferred to SFO, where once again he was elected as Shop Steward. The members of Local Lodge 1781 in SFO elected Faung full-time Ramp & Stores Committeeperson six years later.

Faung became Assistant General Chairperson for the West Coast in 1999. The following year, he was given additional duties as Co-Managing Editor of the District Lodge 141 Messenger newspaper. He became Managing Editor in 2003, and within three years the Messenger became the most-honored District newspaper in the union.

Faung earned an Associate of Arts degree in Industrial Management at Essex Community College. He also attended the University of Baltimore and has taken numerous courses at the William W. Winpisinger Education & Technology Center.

Faung has attended nearly every District 141 Convention since 1986. He was also elected to attend the Grand Lodge Conventions in 1988, 1996 and 2004.
