Nate Gushi
USA Fleet Service
Assistant General Chairperson - Two Year Term
Assistant General Chair Nate Gushi also served as President of Local Lodge 1932 at LAX.
United Airlines hired Gushi in 1978 as a Ramp Service worker.
Gushi has worked for nine airlines throughout his career: United [Ramp and Kitchen], Swift [Ramp], Golden Gate [Ramp and Ops], World [Ops], Aspen [Ops, Ramp and Pax service], Wings West [Dispatch and Pax service], Airspur Helicopter [Ramp, Ops and Pax service], PSA [Pax service] and USAirways [Pax service, Ramp and Ops].
“Nine different airlines must be some sort of record,” says Gushi, who will have 25 years of service with US Airways this year.
In addition to International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers, Gushi has also been a member of ALEA and the Teamsters.
“It was my involvement with the Teamsters that prompted our late brother Steve Cooke to recruit me into the organizing USAir and bringing them into the IAM,” Gushi recalls.
Gushi has served as a Shop Steward and Grievance Committee Chair at US Airways ramp at LAX since the IAM became the certified representative.
He was appointed and then elected Trustee of Local Lodge 1932. Gushi has also served as Vice President, Safety Representative and member of the By-Law and Organizing committees. He has been a contributing writer to the Local Lodge 1932 newsletter.
“In my capacity as Grievance Committee Chairman, I have had the privilege to defend the rights of my co-workers in countless grievances at the entry level. As a Local Lodge officer, I was proud to represent many different airline employees from many different work groups.” says Gushi.
Gushi has been a delegate to many IAM Grand Lodge and District Conventions, Committee Chair Conferences, Safety Conferences, Grievance Committee Conferences, Educator Conferences, Legislative Conferences, MNPL National Planning Committees, IAM Organizing Conferences and Transportation Conferences. In addition, he has attended training conferences at the William W. Winpisinger Education & Technology Center.
“I use all of that experience and the things I learn every day to better serve the members in my new job as AGC. I have been preparing my whole life to serve working people and I take this job seriously every minute of every day. I know who I work for, the rank and file members of our great union,” says Gushi.
